Description

Released in 1993 in Europe as the top of the range / top quality model in Sony's portfolio, alongside the well known K808ES and K909ES when Dolby S NR was commercially available

The following service operations have been completed:
- full disassembly to the smallest components
- deep clean inside and outside, degreasing with special solvents,
- strip paint on the case to bare metal, 2 x primer, 2 x base coat (black matt) and 2 x clear coat lacquer  - the top case had some bashes and deep scratches - resolved in a decent manner (barely noticeable)
- Both mechanisms tear down, clean, degrease, new vaseline and oil to gears and capstans and motors
- new belts and pinch rollers
- every contact, connector and potentiometer were cleaned with contact cleaner
- added new IEC power connector with clear phase marking, ground for EMI (not connected to chassis to avoid ground loops via RCA cables), master power switch (for long time standby, child protection - the transformer and power supply are permanently energized.
- added EMI filter board to clear noises and harmful frequencies / harmonics from today's polluted power grids
- added user replaceable fuse for extra protection (had none before)
- Added two additional aluminum support bars from back to front, one on top back plate, one on lower front to further stabilize the chassis and increase the rigidity, thus reducing  potential vibrations. The cases of these models (double decks) can suffer from the fact that the top / bottom cases have thinner metal sheeting than the 3 head models.

Tape paths checked with SONY MC-112C mirror cassette
- speed checked with MTT-211NA test tape,
- azimuth adjusted with TCC-151 test tape, minor corrections were necessary since factory calibration
- demagnetized with TDK HD-30
- PB & REC levels adjusted, quick reverse sensitivity, BIAS current, BIAS levels
- All functions tested, stress test with various tapes, PB & recordings, 16 hours burn test on relay mode playback
- Pictures are available from the restoration process of this unit for the new owner
- All of the above will ensure a generous service life for the new owner.
Overall, it is one of the high quality double decks on the market, ideal for medium - high passionate / knowledge users / collectors
It produces warm sound, low distortion, rich bass and highs, and is most suited for listening high quality recordings given the high quality playback characteristics and the commodity of the auto-reverse / quick reverse / blank skip and remote. It also makes great recordings from DAC's or other digital / analogue sources. With a good quality tape and calibration, it makes little difference between the source and the recordings (no audible difference compared to a 3 head deck). Also these models are physically less aggressive with the tapes than the three head models with double capstans.
Will ship to EU continental countries preferably (shipping price reflects that, it might appear high but the unit with adequate cushioning and packing can exceed 10 kg in weight, and bashed and bruised arrival on customer side is unwanted, since it would defeat the purpose of the sale).
