Description

An Electronically and physically restored vintage Marantz 1810 Cassette Deck. It has new belts, new caps, a couple new transistors, heads were cleaned and demagnitized, it has been calibrated as well.
The bad. Not much, the left large recording knob has a scratch/rough area. The Walnut veneer top has a long but not deep scratch near the middle of the back.
The good:
I refinished the cabinet. I did not want to sand too deep and sand through the veneer, thus the scratch that remains. The cabinet came to life after doing this.
I recapped the unit. Every electrolytic capacitor was replaced using high quality Nichicon, Panasonic FC and EVEN BETTER, Wima film caps. The Wima film caps replaced every electrolytic with a capacitance of 4.7uf or smaller. I've recapped a few decks this way and the sonic difference between a recapped deck using superior film caps and an untouched deck with the original caps is remarkable. While this is nowhere close to the best deck Marantz made, it now outperforms anything that hasn't had this work done. It simply crushes a 5220 I have that I have not recapped yet (coming soon!) and does the same with a high end Pioneer CT-F1000. The vintage audio world KNOWS that recapping a vintage amp or receiver makes a HUGE difference but few go that same extra mile with cassette decks. They should. I also replaced two transistors that we now know are noisy with high quality ON-SEMI Devices. 24 Wima caps were used in the restoration, they can be seen in the pic of the unit open, they are the rectangular red caps seen on the board.
The heads appear to have very little wear and are not flattened
New belts were installed
Rubber parts critical to smooth operation were renewed with Rubber Renue - a product that does exactly what it says.
The adjustments to speed etc. were made via service manuals specs.
The 1810 uses two lamps. This deck appears to have gotten little use so I did not replace the lamps (just seems silly to replace something that probably has tons of life in it) but I am including two new incandescent lamps with it. They are the correct size, voltage and amperage rating and you'll have them if the originals fail. They are EASY to replace.
The style is a PERFECT match to other 1970's Marantz components and will look great with your receiver, amp, whatever.
I know how to pack and take pride in doing it right, it will arrive in the condition shown.
