Description
FROM MADEIRA WITH LOVE...Circa 1840, blue and white Staffordshire transferware small tureen identified on the back as illustrated.
The tureen is composed of four pieces..... The liner Plate, Gravy or Sauce Bowl, Lid and Ladle.
Made in the United Kingdom by John Meir & Son, the pattern noted as "Northern Scenery", views of Scotland.
The scenic view on the liner is Loch Linne, on the tureen bowl, Loch Kitchurn.
The liner plate has survived free of chips or cracks, no cutlery marks.
It measures 8 1/2 inches across (21cm) and is 7 1/2 inches (19.5cm) wide.
The tureen bowl has also survived free of chips, cracks, discolorations or cutlery marks.
It stands 4 1/4 inches (10.5cm) tall with the opening measuring 5 1/4 inches (13.5cm) in diameter.
The lid has a bean sized chip on its rim, illustrated. Despite how delicate the finial is, it survived in good order.
The original ladle had broken at the join by the bowl and was reattached without any losses.
No chips or cracks
in the bowl or the rest of the ladle handle. It measures approximately 6 inches (17cm) in length.
I have inserted one photo with a standard size playing card for size reference.
