    Description

An incredible, genuine original Georgian ring in silver and gold, and set with four glistening foiled pastes flanking a matching foiled natural rock crystal with an amazing large rectangular table facet.
Its interesting sectional design and squared-off shape are typically Georgian and totally original. Each stone is set into its own hand crafted cellular bed, with subtle corner highlights - and the main stone has a wonderful rounded back with radial ribbing - the stones' rounded underbezels gently raise the ring off the finger and give it relief in 3 dimensions, and looks amazing and typically Georgian from all angles!
The silver shoulders bear ornate accents and join to its original, solid 9 carat gold ribbed band that sets the whole piece off perfectly.
It's a size 8.5 and I don't recommend resizing this piece due to its age. Each stone shows dirt/green growth underneath - clearly it got wet at some point in the long past and didn't dry fully. So now the pastes' edges are tinged green, this is not fixable but it is part of its history which many find charming and a sign of true authenticity. The main stone's central facet is the absolute highlight of this piece, drawing the light and subtly reflecting with a moody, naturalistic lustre. It's surrounded by long, slim facets - each one hand cut, shaped and polished by a master lapidary. This main stone and the two either side are in extremely good condition for its age, while the two terminal stones show a couple of chips as is normal. The rest of the ring is in remarkably good original condition, with no loss or damage and minimal evidence of wear considering its 250-year history.
It dates from around 1770, weighs 1.5 grams and measures 6 mm across the head.
